What is Benzocaine/Lidocaine/Tetracaine Topical Cream?
(Also known as Lidocaine/Tetracaine or BLT cream, gel, or ointment)
This topical anaesthetic compound is a blend of 3 local anesthetics:
1. Benzocaine: A fast-acting, surface-level anesthetic.
2.Lidocaine: A widely used intermediate-acting anesthetic that penetrates deeper into the skin.
3. Tetracaine: a longer-acting, potent anesthetic that enhances the depth and duration of numbness.
Benefits of Benzocaine/Lidocaine/Tetracaine Therapy:
1. Rapid onset and long duration due to the combination of three agents.
2. Tailorable concentrations depending on patient need and procedure.
Uses:
Dermatology & Aesthetic Medicine:
1. Pre-procedure numbing for cosmetic treatments such as laser hair removal, microneedling, tattooing or tattoo removal, dermal filler or botox injections, chemical peels, and skin biopsies or minor surgical procedures.
Pain Management:
1. Topical Relief for minor burns, abrasions, or other superficial skin injuries (though used with caution in open wounds).
2. Can aid in the management of pain for localized neuropathy or post-herpatic neuralgia (off-label).
Dental Applications (when used orally in compounded forms):
1. Temporary relief of mouth sores or pain from dental procedures (although more commonly lidocaine or benzocaine alone are used in this setting).
